Focus on art play: The joy is in the creating

Do you feel like you don't have the time or space to play with your art supplies? I try to spend 30 minutes (at least) a day on art, but I'll be honest. It doesn't always happen. I love how Carolyn Dube over at A Colorful Journey approaches art play. She recommends using supplies that you have readily available and consider it "playing." We forget how to just play, and we need to rediscover it! Check out her free Permission to Play Workshop!

Don't worry that you have the "wrong" supplies--there is no such thing! Don't worry that your project "should" look a certain way--you're just playing!

Get out your art supplies and have fun this week! The joy is in the process, not the end product.

Old & New: Happy Birthday Die

I have a pile of unused Designer Series Papers (DSPs), and I know if I put them away, they will never get used! So I set out to turn the papers into cards. This set features the Festive Birthday papers and the brand new Happy Birthday die. What an easy way to make fun cards, appropriate for male or female of almost any age! Mixed Metallics with Brusho

Even though I have enough raw materials to make at least a thousand cards, I still find myself picking up boxes of fancy pre-made cards at the craft stores. I couldn't resist these mixed metallics cards because I knew I could add watercolor to them!

I sprinkled some Brusho powders (Orange and Leaf Green) onto the cardstock, then spritzed just enough water on them to get the color moving. I love how the colors mix and separate and make their own beautiful patterns!

Making a standard, store-bought item into a one-of-a-kind piece of art is so satisfying to me. Nobody else has cards that look like this, and that makes them extra special.
