What do you do with reinkers?

Reinker, or ink refills, can be really important to maintaining even color on your ink pads. But for more fun, try using them on their own! Here's a fun technique using shaving cream!




You can make many, many cards with one batch of shaving cream, and they'll all be different!

Sending Sunshine!

After a record-breaking winter, we are ready for some sunshine! These two cards started with a panel of Inside the Lines Designer Series Paper (DSP) from Sale-a-bration. My daughter Sarah agreed to color it for me, and then I couldn't decide how to use it. It sat on my desk for a few days until I realized I wanted to die cut a word out of it and fill in the hole with fun foam!

I had originally intended to put the cut word back on top of the foam, but the blue just seemed perfect on its own. There are two layers of blue fun foam on the right card. And our Thinlits and Framelits cut through fun foam easily! Remember those white clouds?

Then, of course, the puzzle of what to do with the die cut word. Certainly, it deserves to be used, right? After lots of experimentation, I chose a layer of Pear Pizazz behind a Kraft embossed layer. Again, I cut two layers of white fun foam, then adhered them together and added the Inside the Lines layer to the top. If you use self-adhesive fun foam, it's even easier.

Cloud Stencils and Up & Away Thinlits

I spent quite a bit of time last week playing around with the cloud dies in the Up & Away Thinlits set. I really wanted to make a stencil so I could customize a sky on any project. Despite what you'll see here for the next week, sometimes I actually make cards without hot air balloons. :-)

I tried just regular cardstock, but I put the clouds too close together and kept catching edges when I sponged ink. Then I tried watercolor paper and LOVED it! That's the one you see pictured here, with a card I sponged clouds on. I saved the cloud cutouts--they'll be really fun on just the right card!

I still wasn't satisfied because I wanted to make some embossing paste clouds, and paper just doesn't work for that. I had some stencil blanks from a local store, but the cloud dies left the thin material too warped to get a clean line.

So fun foam was my next idea! It worked pretty well, with the bonus that the white fun foam clouds really turned out to be a fun idea on a card, too! That's a photo for another day. The only issue I had with the fun foam stencil was that I kept feeling that the "sky" was too blank. I wanted overlapping clouds, and I just couldn't figure out how to do that effectively with what I could make. I'm hoping to see a cloud stencil from Stampin Up in the future.
